End of February

Ok, it´s the 28th of February and my painting challage is for this month is over. Ok, let´s face it, I failed horrible! I planned to paint a mob of Árd boyz, 1 Deffkopta, one Shoota boy and one Kannon for my Orks. So far only the Deffkopta is finished. Ok, I had less time to paint this month than I could guess, but this little? I guess thnat I´ll have to line up my leftovers from February for next month.

So my monthly painting challage for March should be like this:
10 Árd boyz
1 Shoota boy
1 Kannon

And...
some warmachine! I have some Cryx models who is longing for some paint!

Untill next time, happy painting!

Making a base using water effect

I thought I would show you how I made a base using water effect from Vallejo. This water effect should be transparent when dried. For this base I was aiming for water similar to swamp.
Step 1
I started to build my base using some bark and sand mixed with white glue.

Step 2
When compleately dry I used VMC Stone grey and went over the base with a heavy drybrush. I took VGC Dark flesh and brushed over the parts I wanted to be coverd by the water effect. Then I did some strokes using VMC Olive green. I make sure at the part where the water meets the land retains the basic color (Dark flesh) to illustrate the wet sand/dirt. Now stroke a thin layer of water effect on the part where the water is supposed to be, leave for at least 24h to dry.

Step 3
After 24h and a final drybrush with VMC Stone grey mixed with a little white (about 3:1 ratio). The water effect shrinks a bit when it dries so you might want to use two thin coats instead on one. In this picture you can se that it has shrinked a bit comparing to step 2, but it still looks ok. Now all thats left is to maybe put some more colour on the base and maybe some static grass of your choice and paint the edges of the base black.

Stryker with snow

Ok, so I did finish my first warmachine model, Commander Stryker from Cygnar. Not only was this my first Warmachine model but it was also my first real attempt to make a snowbase and some NMM for the sword. The NMM is a real challange and I can honestly say that I´m a long way from beeing able to using the NMM technique. Maybe I´ll do another attempt on a different model another day, but I´m glad that I gave it a shoot!
The strukture of the base was built using sand, some bark from a tree (fore the stone)and some folige from a blister pack. After the regular glueing and painting I covered the base with some Foam & snow (from Vallejo) and then I took some natron and sprinkled over the "snow", took me about 2 miniutes to do the "snow" and I´m rather pleased with the result considering the time it took. What do you think?

WIP Warmachine

Ok, long time since my last post. The truth is that i haven´t had time to paint as much recently. Work, family and illnes had pretty much occupied my time the last week or so. But, I have put some paint on Strykers sword, but I can´t get it right. My intension was to try some NMM (None metallic metals) for the first time, it turned out to be much harder than I could imagine! Maybe some of you can point me in the right direction?

Next time there will be a pice about my latest purchase, water effect (transparent gel) from Vallejo!

Deffkopta

Last night I manage to finish my third Deffkopta. since I rushing to get my army ready for some action in a few weeks I only went for Tabeltop standard on this one (I´ll probably go over it some other time and do some extras). Anyway, Now I have 10 Àrd boyz and at least one killa kan left to do until the end of February. Let´s see if I can make it. Hope you will like my deffkopta.

Untill next time, happy painting!

Pigments

I just finished my third Deffkopta (pics will show up later), and I just wanted to say...God I love pigments! I have said it before, but the more I use pigments the more I wonder how I could have painted without it before? How on earth did I manage to do some weathering?

February painting list

My painting list for February wasn´t that long...yet I have had a hard time finding time to paint anything. I have just started to build 5 out of 10 Árd boyz. Althou I did finish my AoBR Nob and I´m almost done with my Deffkopta. So I guess there will be enough time left in February for me to finish my list. The Deffkopta and the Nob will be in tabeltop standard only. I hope I will find some time to paint my Warbosses and a Warphead in a higher standard.
Here is a pic of my latest Nob and a bonus pic of my the models who are painted.

Tools

I was planning to write a piece about tools. As a wargamer you use a lot of tools. It could be clippers, tweezers, saws, brushes, different sets of files, glue, knives and so on and on.
A while ago I bought some modelling tools and files from The Army painter. I haven´t really used any files before, I just use to take my scalpel and cut away any mold lines. But that was before...today I use my files at almost every painting session. 95% of all moldlines are now removed by the files comparing to before when I removed every mold line with my scalpel. Files, can´t go without them! And the sculpting tools, well they were a lot cheaper then compareble sculpting tools from other companys and for my needs they works just fine. So, next time I´m thinking about buying some tools...make sure you consider the Army painter too!
