Going for a trip

I´m going away with the kids for a few days so no painting will be done. But I will collect some basing materials and when I come back I will write another basing tutorial on how to make some nice and cheap bases in no time.

Untill next time, happy painting!

Basing: Doing a industrial/mesh base

Today I will show you a way to do some industrial/mesh bases for your miniatures, in the past I did one on weathering yellow and now it´s time for another. For this tutorial I took a 50mm round base from GW (but It will work on any other base).
First of all you will be needing some tulle, superglue, a base (of course), a scalpel and a pair of scissors.
For painting the base I used,
Black
Dark Flesh (VMC)
Tinny tin (VGC)
Boltgun metal (GW)
Gunmetal metal (VGC)
Mithril silver (GW).
Besides that I used three kinds of pigments,
Orange rust (Forge world)
Dark earth (forge world)
Rubbel dust (MIG).
Step 1
Take a piece of tulle and cut it to the right shape, don´t worry if its not correct, we will fix that later. Now take some superglue and put it on the base, use an old pice of card or something to spread it over the base. Now put on the tulle and carefully use the card to press it against the base. Be carefull not to glue the card as well. Leave this to dry for a while, go grab some coffe!

Step 2.
Take your scalpel and trim the edges of the tulle so it fits to the base.

Step 3.
Paint the entire base with black.

Step 4.
I use Darke flesh from VGC and staple it onto the base.

Step 5.
I repeat step 4 but this time with Tanny tin.

Step 6.
Staple some Boltgun metal onto the base.

Step 7. Drybrush the base using Gunmetal metal.

Step 8. Pick out the finest highlight using Mithrill silver from GW.

Step 9.
Bring out your pigments! I started by brushing Orange rust over the base, here it´s a matter of what you think looks good.

Step 10.
I brushed Dark earth over the base, be carefull not to overdo it.

Step 11.
This is the last step and I took som Rubbel dust and carefully applied on the base. I only did some Rubbel dust on one part of the base to make it look more interesting.

Hope this tutorial was helpfull! This base took about 5-10min to do if you exlude the drying time and is beside the cost of paints and pigments almost free. The tulle can be bought for almost nothing at any store selling fabric.

On tonight´s desk

There wasn´t much paint on my brushes tonight. I thought I should show you what I´m currently working on. It´s a Bad moon meganob for my Orks, a Necrotech, a Slayer and a burried marker (for the Helldiver) for my Cryx. Tonight was mostly about priming the models, and started on the base for the Necrotech and the Slayer. I also started to do the first layers of metal and yellow on the Meganob. Hopfully I will have something more intresting to show in a day or two.

Played my first game of Warmachine tonight

I played my first game of Warmachine tonight. I was using my Cryx against Cygnar. Since it was my first game of Warmachine we decided to play using a 15pts list. This is what I put on the table:

Warwitch Deneghra
1 Slayer
1 Deathripper
1 Nightwretcher
1 Helldiver
1 Stalker
1 Necrotech and Scrapthrall

The game itself turned out to be a lot of fun, it was rather easy to get the way the turns worked out and get an idea about the basics. But I guess it takes many, many battles to master the game. Of course my Cryx got beaten up, but who cares when the game turned out to be a real challage!
And who on earth will I fiund motivation to finish my Orks now? Maybe they are for sale...if you are intrested, drop me a mail with an offer and i might just take it.
Untill next time, happy painting( and wargaming)!

Sverok painting competition

I finished my entry for the on-line Sverok painting competition last night. Not so much painting then, except doing the leafs on the base. I still have a lot to learn about taking good photos of minis, but I think this is the best I can do at the moment with the resurses (that would be light) I got. Let me know if you like or dislike the mini. I mostly had a lot of fun doing this piece and I tried out a whole lot of new things and techniques. Here it is, a Grot revealing himself from cover.

Project Cryx!

A while ago I decided that I should start playing Warmachine, and the choice fell on Cryx since I really liked the models. Good looking models is the first step an army has to make before I start playing with them. Beeing mor of a collector then a gamer, the apperance is important to me.It doesn´t matter if I win or loose a battle as long as I got the chanse to paint the models. Anyway, enough of this.
This is what i got for my Cryx so far...
Warwitch Deneghra
1 Slayer
1 Nightwretch
1 Deathripper (actually two, but failing several attempts to remove paint from these minis made me realise that I was beaten by the thick-layer paint god)
2 Stalkers
1 Helldiver (already painted)
1 Necrotech
6 Mechanithralls

I have already started to paint one Mechanithrall, and as soon as that mini is done I will do the other five. This is the begining of my Cryx era. We will se how fast i will paint them, but my goal is that they should be ready in a month or two.

Last night´s work

This is what I did last night, continued to paint my Grot for the Sverok on line competition I mentioned earlier. I also did the first layer of water effect on the base. To get a break painting Grots and Orks (feels like I have painted something green before...)I continued to work on my test mini for my Mechanithralls. It´s still a lot of work to do, and I´m not sure about the colors but We will se how he turns out when finished. Anyway, let me know what you like or dislike and if you have any tip on improvement, I will be happy.

Bringing out the Orks

A few days ago I manage to bring my Orks to town for a friendly game of Wh40k. It took place at Dragons Lair in Stockholm and I played with a fellow wargamer I meet at another forum. So this who was my test run with the Orks I would face the Tyranids! It was a hard battle swinging from side to side and after six turns od slaughter it ended in a draw. All to all I´m pretty happy how my orks performed, and now I will start to expand my army as I´m aiming for a playable 1750pts force.
Here is a few shoots from the game.

Thank´s Muffin for a great game!

two weeks of painting

I just signed up for a two week painting competiton in an swedish gaming forum. The rules are simple build a model in one week and paint it in two weeks. The model have to fit in a certain theme, and this theme was "stealth". So on thursday it´s time to start painting and build him a base. I will try to make som zenithal light on this model so I guess I will have a hard time, haven´t really done that before. But it will be fun!

Some projects

Right now I got several projects I want to paint, and it´s hard to decide what to do first and it means that I paint several different things at once. Ok, I get some variations in my painting but it takes forever to build a force of some kind (if you are a wargamer, that is). Anywa, enought rambling! Here are some things on workbench at the moment. I dont see any need for individual shoots at the moment since it´s only the basic colors on alla models except the shoota boy and the Árd boy who I just begun doing the weathering process on.

More pics and a few updats comming shortly.
